This week in DC comedy
Some highlights from District Comedians this week: the DC Comedy Festival is wrapping up on Sunday, Union Stage is hosting an open mic on Tuesday, Comedy Potluck will feature an array of oddballs on Wednesday, and Big No-No hosts Big Duo night for the very last time on Friday.
Sunday, April 15
It’s the last day of the first annual DC Comedy Festival, which kicks off with a free brunch featuring a handful of comedians at Bier Baron Tavern at noon. Then Drafthouse Comedy hosts the DC Comedy All Stars Showcase at 4pm ($5–$10), as well as the final show of the festival with headliner Jay Phillips at 6pm ($10–$15).
This month’s Improv Sandbox theme is “Roll with it: dealing with challenging scene partners.” If that sounds like a skill you could use, head over to Emergence Community Arts Center at 1pm. Bottom Shelf will also do a set at 2:30pm.
Jordan Rock‘s last show at DC Improv is coming up tonight at 7pm ($17).
Tuesday, April 17
This week, WIT’s Harold Night is back on the main stage at Source. You can catch Tiovivo and Wonder Whale at 8pm and Out Sick and LIZARD GIRL at 9pm.
Union Stage hosts its Jokes on Tap Open Mic tonight at 8pm. The show is free, and sign-ups start at 7pm.
Wednesday, April 18

Thursday, April 19
Jokes That Give Back is a monthly stand-up show, hosted by Nicki Fuchs, that fundraises for local charities.This month’s show is at Drafthouse Comedy at 7pm, and a portion of the proceeds will go to the DC chapter of Engineers Without Borders ($10).
Catch Nemr‘s “Love Isn’t the Answer” tour at DC Improv with shows on Thursday at 7:30pm, Friday at 7:30pm and 9:45pm, Saturday at 7:30pm and 9:45pm, and Sunday at 7pm ($25).
Friday, April 20
Shane Torres, of Last Comic Standing fame, will have four shows at Drafthouse Comedy at 7pm and 9pm this Friday, as well as 7pm and 9pm on Saturday ($20).
Ramon Rivas makes his DC Improv debut with shows this Friday at 7:30pm and 9:45pm and Saturday at 7:30pm and 9:45pm ($17–$20).
Pablo Francisco will be at Arlington Drafthouse this weekend, starting this Friday at 7:30pm and 10pm with another two shows on Saturday at 7pm and 9:30pm ($30–$35).
Big No-No will host Big Duo Night for the last time at Colony Club at 8pm.
You can see some improv and sketch this week at Friday Night Comedy at Dojo with Twin Turbo and Couch Money taking the stage at 8pm, followed by a Frankie sketch show at 9:30pm ($10).
This week’s Improv Comedy Night at The Highwood will feature Door #3, Loro, The Lodge, and The High-Fivers and kicks off, like always, at 8pm ($11).
Zach and Kristin Will Make You Cry. Or at least, that’s the premise of this comedy duo’s show at DCAC this weekend. See if they deliver at 10pm ($12).
Saturday, April 21
Chinese Menu Comedy is conducting a workshop, hosted by Pete Bergen, that will focus on single agreement and character POV at 10am at DCAC ($15).
Saturday Night Comedy at Dojo is all sketch this week with a Brick Penguin double-header at 8pm and 10pm ($10).
The Mason Improv Association (MIA) Festival starts today at 7pm on the GMU campus in Fairfax.
