This week in DMV comedy
Check out the shows happening in and around DC this week.
Sunday, April 8
The fourteenth show of its kind, Improv Brunch is happening again at The Pinch from 12pm-4pm. This month’s show features Impact Driver, Socialist Candlemakers, No Re Mi, The High-Fivers, Bottom Shelf, and Topics By You: A Live Podcast. (Bonus: email improvbrunch@gmail.com to sign up for future shows.)
This all-female improv jam has everything: bagels, possibly jam—the food kind of jam—and definitely improv. If you’re a female-identifying performer, share some bagels and some laughs at Emergence Community Arts Collective at 12:30.
Taylor Tomlinson will have her final stand-up show at DC Improv at 7:30. Tickets are $17.
Tuesday, April 10
Harold Night
You know the drill: WIT puts on free Harold shows every Tuesday at Source. This week, you can catch Wonder Whale and Captain PhD at 8pm and LIZARD GIRL and Oh That Baby at 9pm in the Rehearsal Room upstairs. Pro tip: Get there early if you don’t want to sit in the aisles.
Wednesday, April 11
If a Murder Mystery Comedy Show sounds like your thing, you can go see one at DC Improv at 7:30pm for $17.
Thursday, April 12
I don’t know who Mick Foley is, but WWE fans might. Anyway, you can see him at DC Improv for $25 at 7:30pm. If you’re super into it, you can snag VIP tix for $75.
You might recognize Lil Rel Howery as the comic relief in Oscar-winning Get Out, but you can recognize him as the comic relief in your life this week for just $20 at 7:30pm on Thursday, 7:30pm and 10pm on Friday, and 7pm and 9:30pm on Saturday at Arlington Drafthouse.
Friday, April 13
Andy Woodhull, a comedian from my great homestate of Indiana, will be taking over the DC Improv lounge on Friday at 7:30pm and 9:45pm and Saturday at 7:30pm and 9:45pm. Like most Hoosiers, he is described as “mostly clean.” All shows are $17.
Jordan Rock is headlining at DC Improv this weekend at 7:30pm and 9:45pm on Friday, 7pm and 9:30pm on Saturday for $20. You can also hold out for cheaper tickets ($17) for Sunday’s 7pm show when, I assume, Jordan will be slightly tired.
Improv Pop-Up Presents: Melanin
This month’s Improv Pop-Up show will showcase the talent of “some of DC’s favorite improvisers of color.” You can catch it at Colony Club at 8pm for $10.
Friday Night Comedy at Dojo
This week, you can catch Twin Turbo, Stovëtron, and One Wet Dog in the 8pm show and Maple Sunday, Mordipus, and Goodison at 9:30pm. Tickets for each show are $10.
Rock Around the Box is a series of improv duos that you can see at DCAC at 10pm for $10.
If you like bagels, you might like to watch Stacey Axler taste-test them blindfolded at Dojo at 11pm. What’s better than a late-night bagel and some comedy for $10?
Saturday, April 14
Marina Franklin will be standing up while doing comedy at Drafthouse DC at 7pm and 9pm this weekend. This is apparently a two-year anniversary show, although the anniversary of what, exactly, eludes me. Tickets are $20.
Saturday Night Comedy at Dojo
Frankie gets a double-header this week! You can catch them at either their 8pm or 9pm show—or both, I don’t know your life!—for $10 a pop.
Three Guys On presents their free Saturday Night Comedy Showcase where local comics can test new material every week at 10:45pm at Drafthouse DC
Get your laughs in!
You could laugh on your couch alone while watching The Office for the thousandth time or you could go to one these shows. Up to you!
